Vivienne Ferguson - painterIn a review of an August 1996 exhibition of work by Vivienne Ferguson, art critic John McDonald said "Vivienne Ferguson's abstract paintings and collages excude an extraordinary feeling of serenity. The term spiritual is much abused in contemporary art, but thee is such an absence of ego.....that it would be vain to see the artists aspirations in any other light. For a few weeks the gallery has become a temple where the progress of time is suspended.....the most purposeful gaze is dissolved in Ferguson's pale ethereal pictures....(the) work seems more closely attuned to an oriental world-view, accustomed to looking beyond physical reality."
