The Archive

"Margaret Dredge'' National Library Collection
This material consists of art works, books, catalogues, ephemera, electronic records, music and other material that informs the collection as well as the life of the two collectors.
In the 1970's we were 'members' of Central Street Gallery the front line in contemporary art scene. No art was purchased at exhibitions attended held during the brief life of the Gallery, the ephemera of the few invitations in the archive will remain but memories will be lost, memories of performance art such as Ken Unsworth being buried in a sand in a large glass box, and left buried for what seemed an extremely long time, before an assistant smashed the front panel to allow the sand to spill on to the Gallery floor. The uneasiness and feelings generated in the audience was essentially a part of the art. We, now I, have been members of the Performance Space for well over twenty years, originally at Cleveland Street and now at Carriage Works in Redfern and attended Festivals around the country, particularly the Adelaide Festival. We regularly attended performance, contemporary dance, exhibitions, video art and theatre of all kinds. Material evidence of these activities is also in the archive.
The Archive is essentially in two categories, material that informs the collection and the material that has been collected because it was a gift, to each other or from other people, because it was utilitarian or just appealed as an art work or object.
The following sections of the Archive will be "UNDER CONSTRUCTION" for some time:
- Art works by ARTIST (Themed Collection Archival material ) - Art works by ARTIST (personal/collectable archival material)
- PUBLICATIONS - EPHEMERA - MEDIA - PHOTOGRAPHS
